Hi everyone!

So I know I’ve not really introduced myself as the person behind the podcast, so I though I’d take the opportunity to share some bits about myself.

I’m Mahlon, MEV with colleagues, Mah with friends or Mr Evans-Sinclair (or ‘Eclair’) now that I’m back in the classroom!

Jobwise in reverse, I’m currently the Director of Equity Diversity and Inclusion at an independent girl’s centered school in Toronto, Canada. Prior to this I was a Diversity and Inclusion Facilitator at a Toronto consultancy and before that, the Head of Training and Curriculum for an international teacher development organisation.

I jumped out of the classroom in 2015 to be the History and Training Lead for Ark Teacher Training but started as a TeachFirst history trainee, teaching Humanities in East London before becoming. Head of faculty there and at another school, also in East London.

I created @ewbpod as a means to hear and amplify the voices of the Black teachers that;

  • I never got a chance to work with
  • • who never got the opportunity for closure, and
  • • who have really interesting things to say about how education served them and serves the students coming through! The experience has been so much more than I could have expected AND i’m not done!

More selfishly, the podcast has been a great way to bring out my love of using analogies to explain, drawing together ideas or breaking them down, all while making learning engaging – if sometimes uncomfortable!

🧐 As a little extra info… when we were allowed outside without restrictions(!) I was a soca & dancehall spin instructor! [➡️➡️] As such, I’m always up for a new or throwback tune to add to the play/routine list for when I’m back on the bike, so feel free to suggest some!

So, enough about me… What about you?
